IMPLANTABLE CONTACT LENS (ICL)

An implantable contact lens (ICL) is a specialist lens that is implanted in the eye between the iris and natural lens.

It can be used to correct a wide range of short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) or astigmatism (ovoid-shaped eyeball) without making any permanent changes to the cornea. It is especially useful in younger patients before the onset of presbyopia.

Implantable contact lenses are custom-made and can treat prescriptions as low as -20.00D up to +8.00D and 4.50D of astigmatism. The lenses are made from a collagen-based material modified to include UVA and UVB protection.

The lens is designed to sit just behind the pupil / iris in front of your natural lens, and is implanted through a tiny incision made at the edge of the cornea. It is a fully reversible procedure and the lens can be removed
