Short-sightedness

Short-sightedness, or myopia, is where patients can see up close clearly but objects in the distance appear blurred without correction.

It is caused by the eye being too long or the refractive power of the eye being too strong such that light is focused in front of the retina (see figure). It may be treated with glasses, contact lenses, laser eye surgery or refractive lens exchange.
