Conditions
Pterygium
Pterygium is a benign growth of vascular tissue under the superficial white layer (conjunctiva) of the eye.
It may grow slowly across the cornea leading to blurred vision and potentially scarring of the cornea. It is caused by chronic exposure to UV light and is more common in people who work outdoors, travel to or have lived in equatorial or Southern Hemisphere countries. It can be treated by surgical excision and conjunctival autograft (see treatments).
