Laser eye surgery is the name given to a group of procedures designed to correct the eye’s refractive error and reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

LASIK (Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is the most frequently performed vision correction procedure worldwide. A thin flap is created in the cornea by the Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser. The Z8 uses a very low pulse energy allowing extremely accurate treatments with the delivery of significantly less energy to the cornea.

During LASIK the underlying corneal surface is then reshaped using the Schwind Amaris 1050RS excimer laser to eliminate any irregularities of shape, allowing light to be focused accurately on the retina at the back of the eye. The flap is then replaced, and it heals without any stitches. LASIK can treat myopia (short-sighted), hyperopia (long-sighted) and astigmatism (irregular corneal shape)

["post-2975","treatment","type-treatment","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
